The Win Matrix (formerly the Ops Matrix) shows the truth, which is extremely valuable. If used the wrong way, it can be painful. Here is how to make knowing the truth a powerful and positive experience.
Measure wins, not losses.
When your score is above 85, you’re measuring lots of wins. If you’re score is below 85, your wasting too much energy measuring your losses. For any activity that scores below 85, just make it easier, or cut it out completely, ASAP!
How to make your activity easier
Running 4km becomes run any distance
Fasting 12pm-8pm becomes fasting 10am-10pm
No bought coffees ever, becomes bought coffee only twice per week
Day planned by 8am becomes day planned out by noon
Floss at night becomes floss any time in the day
Run everyday becomes run everyday excluding days away from home
Run everyday becomes run everyday excluding bad weather days
Run everyday becomes run everyday excluding when I have visitors staying
5 Sales calls every week day becomes 5 sales calls only when I am at the office
Never eat chocolate becomes never buy chocolate
Never buy chocolate becomes only buy chocolate once a week
Play the long game
Sure, we all want fast results. You’ll get them, but you need to lay the groundwork first. You’ll get compounding returns, far beyond any immediate quick wins, by gradually making improvements to your plans. You will know you’re ready to get more ambitious when your average scores are above 90.
Start by getting yourself in the winning lane
When you’re starting out, it’s tempting to put 10 aspirational habits in there. By themselves, they might be easy (or not), but all at once, they are hard. Give yourself some easy wins, and also diversify them. They don’t all have to be fitness related, or relationship related, or money related. Choose some from the example list below to get you started. A good starting goal is to get 6 easier habits to a 7 day average of over 90 before you go adding anything more hardcore.
Example activities
Floss
1L of water before noon
Take health supplements
One daily chore (water plants, dishes, washing, bathroom counter, bins)
